Programmers overtaken: Salaries in coke production and oil derivatives top the list in Serbia

Data from the Republic Institute of Statistics on January salaries show that programmers are no longer the highest-paid profession in Serbia, as employees in coke production and oil derivatives recorded the highest average salary this month, amounting to 332,994 dinars.

Programmers, who have long been considered the highest earners, had an average salary of 292,120 dinars in January.

They were overtaken on the list by those employed in the extraction of crude oil and natural gas, who earned an average of 297,143 dinars.

Interestingly, their January salaries were 96.2% higher compared to December 2024, while employees in coke and oil derivative production received 89.7% more than the previous month.

Salaries above 200,000 dinars in January were also reported by employees in air transportation, with an average of 232,449 dinars, and in scientific research and development, with an average of 206,835 dinars.

On the other end of the list, those with the lowest earnings were employees in other service activities, with an average of 61,068 dinars, followed by those in food and beverage preparation and service, earning an average of 62,889 dinars, those in computer repair and personal household items repair, earning an average of 64,626 dinars, and those in wood processing, products made from wood, cork, straw, and wicker, except furniture, earning an average of 65,888 dinars.
