Dušan Nikezić, Vice President of the Freedom and Justice Party and a Member of Parliament, has declared that the Prokop railway station is unsafe due to structural overload. Cracks have appeared on the load-bearing columns and beams, prompting demands for the immediate closure of Prokop, an emergency inspection of all buildings, and prosecution of those responsible for the alleged corrupt deal behind the project.
Nikezić described Prokop as a “tragedy in the making,” accusing the company owned by Branislav Grujić of being allowed to construct 76,551 square meters on a platform designed to hold only 14,000 square meters of commercial space. This overbuilding is said to generate hundreds of millions of euros in extra profits at the expense of safety.
He called on the Serbian government to disclose the secret contract with Railway City d.o.o. Beograd and answer critical questions, including:
- Why the government transferred ownership of land and platform within the Belgrade Center railway complex to a private company with only one employee, only to buy back completed buildings at prices far exceeding construction costs.
- The legal basis and process for selecting Railway City d.o.o. as the private partner, including the number of participants and the criteria used.
- Who approved the construction of 76,551 m² on a structure statically designed for only 14,000 m², thereby endangering passengers and employees.
Nikezić insisted that due to structural cracks from overloading, Prokop must be immediately closed, thoroughly inspected, and those responsible for the corrupt deal held accountable.
