Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Zorana Mihajlovic said that the Ministry is not satisfied with the efficiency and competitiveness of Public Company “Roads of Serbia” and that she expects that the road sector reform will lead to better maintenance of the road network.
At the meeting of the Road Sector Reform Monitoring Task Force in Serbia, Mihajlovic stated that without further reform in the road sector there would be no further progress, and that they were aware of existing capacities and critical points, the ministry said.
“Together with consultants and international partners, we will define the basic directions of both the road sector reform and the restructuring of this company in order to operate more efficiently, to increase the capacity of all relevant institutions, but also to build, maintain and improve road safety”, the minister said.
The meeting also discussed the signing of an agreement between the Government of Serbia and Roads of Serbia, which would define precisely the levels of services and establish a clear timetable for works and structural reforms.
Representatives of the World Bank, EBRD and EIB who attended the meeting stressed that this was a major step in the reform process and, as a result of the institution’s three-year work, will continue to support program implementation, Srbija Danas writes.
