Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović announced the completion of the rehabilitation of three kilometers of the heating pipeline and the “Krivi vir” boiler plant in Niš. This upgrade will provide the city’s residents with greater security in the supply of thermal energy.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the project will also significantly reduce energy consumption and, consequently, environmental pollution.
More than 4.2 million euros have been invested in the rehabilitation efforts.
The minister explained that the next phase of investment in Niš’s district heating system will focus on introducing renewable energy sources.
“The installation of a ‘water-to-water’ heat pump at the ‘Krivi vir’ boiler plant will allow the use of water from the Nišava River, alongside gas, to produce thermal energy. This will result in reliable heating for Niš residents, a healthier environment, and lower heating costs,” Đedović Handanović said.
Additionally, as part of the Public ESCO project, nine residential communities in Niš, comprising a total of 640 apartments, will undergo energy-efficient renovations and transition to heating billing based on actual consumption.
The minister also reminded that the public call for local governments to participate in the “Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency for Citizens in Serbia” project is open until May 23.
She encouraged cities and municipalities to apply in order to provide their citizens with favorable conditions to replace windows, improve facade insulation, install new boilers, or add solar panels.
