The Regulatory Institute for Renewable Energy and Environment (RERI) has filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court against the Ministry of Environmental Protection, challenging the ministry’s approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the construction of the National Football Stadium.
RERI claims that over 2,300 deep reinforced concrete piles and other foundation elements have already been built at the site without prior environmental assessment. According to the organization, the law requires that even preparatory construction works be evaluated, while the approved EIA presented the project as if construction had not yet started.
“This approach bypassed a proper review of the project’s actual impact on the soil and groundwater,” RERI states, adding that the study contains significant flaws and contradictions.
The organization warns that continuing construction of the stadium poses a high risk of pollution and permanent damage to local water sources.
