Moscow and Belgrade are continuing their joint efforts to find an optimal solution to overcome the challenges created by U.S. sanctions on Serbia’s oil industry, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, noting that the task ahead is complex.
“In the current circumstances, our Serbian partners and we must seek the best solution to overcome the artificially created problems by the U.S. administration. We are confident that our Serbian friends, like us, are genuinely committed to protecting our bilateral relations from external interference,” Zakharova stated, as reported by RIA Novosti via N1.
She added that regarding NIS (Naftna Industrija Srbije), Moscow and Belgrade are continuing the search for an optimal resolution. “We face a difficult task,” she said.
Zakharova emphasized that the search will rely on the 2008 intergovernmental agreement while fully respecting the interests of both Russia and Serbia. She also noted that Russia has always approached NIS responsibly, understanding the company’s critical importance to Belgrade.
Energy remains a key area of Russian-Serbian cooperation, she said, highlighting that Russia has been a reliable supplier of petroleum products to Serbia for decades, ensuring energy stability—a crucial condition for Serbia’s competitive economic development.
