Airports of Regions Holding plans to participate in a tender called to grant a concession to Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla International airport.
According to the website construction.ru, Airports of Regions Director General Yevgeny Chudnovsky confirmed this for Interfax.
“Recently a pre-qualification selection for Belgrade was announced. We were interested in this project as far back as three years ago, and now we are going to participate,” Chudnovsky said.
Airports of Regions Holding is incorporated in Renova, owned by Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg.
The concession tender was announced on February 10 by the Serbian government and the Shareholder Society Aerodrom (airport) Nikola Tesla, with the deadline for applications extended from February 25 to March 10.
The winner will be granted a concession for the financing, development through construction and reconstruction, maintenance and management of the airport’s infrastructure, and the performance of the activity of airport operator.
Companies that already manage airports within a 450-kilometer radius from Belgrade cannot participate, which means that ADP, one of the concession holders of the Zagreb airport, and Turkish TAV, that manages airports in Macedonia, are both out.
Last month, reports said that Germany’s Fraport could take part in the tender.
