Serbia is committed to the realization of the “Buk Bijela” hydropower plant project, as indicated by last year’s investment of 2.5 million euros by the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) in the Hydro-Energy System Gornja Drina, the company responsible for the project implementation, the Ministry of Mining and Energy told Tanjug.

The foundation stone for the “Buk Bijela” hydropower plant, valued at around 250 million euros, was laid in May 2021, and it is expected to be built in the Foča area, along the upper course of the Drina River. This is a joint energy project between the power companies of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia.

Last year, dialogue was also initiated with Montenegro to constructively address all challenges regarding the construction of this hydropower plant on the Drina River.

The Ministry has announced that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study for the “Buk Bijela” hydropower project on Montenegro’s environment is expected to be completed soon, after which there will be a public review and discussion on the study in both the Republic of Srpska and Montenegro.

Once the transboundary impact study for the Durmitor National Park is completed and the necessary conditions for continuing the project are met, the tender process for selecting the main contractor will proceed, according to the Ministry.

Preparatory works have already been completed, with an investment of over 15 million euros so far.
