Serbia and Azerbaijan finalize 500 MW Niš gas power plant deal, secure additional winter gas supplies

Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić announced in Baku that negotiations for a 500 MW gas power plant in Niš have been completed, marking a joint Serbia-Azerbaijan project. The contract signing is expected at the first meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council between Presidents Vučić and Aliyev.

Brnabić highlighted that Azerbaijan will also provide additional gas supplies to Serbia during the winter months, strengthening the country’s energy security. She noted Azerbaijan’s growing influence in Europe’s energy sector, citing the recent acquisition of Italian oil company Api by Azerbaijani company Sokar for €3 billion.

The visit included meetings with Azerbaijan’s parliamentary and government leaders, and Brnabić emphasized that Serbia is a priority partner for Azerbaijan in energy cooperation.
