The free trade agreement between Serbia and the Arab Republic of Egypt comes into effect today, allowing nearly 50% of agricultural products and 30% of industrial goods to be exempt from customs duties. The agreement was signed on July 13, 2024, in Cairo and ratified by the Serbian National Assembly on March 13, 2025.
According to Mihailo Vesović, Vice President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the first phase will mainly benefit agricultural products, including frozen fruit and apples, with full tariff elimination expected gradually over the next 10 years, eventually covering over 90% of agricultural and industrial goods.
The agreement also introduces simplified administrative procedures, certification, and reduced trade barriers. It is expected to encourage new investments and joint ventures between Serbian and Egyptian companies, particularly for access to third markets. Egypt is seen as a key gateway to African and Middle Eastern markets, offering opportunities to increase Serbian exports to these regions.
