Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dragan Glamočić met with leading Ethiopian business and academic representatives following the Second UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) to discuss cooperation opportunities. He presented the capabilities of Serbian companies and highlighted potential collaboration in production, equipment supply, and knowledge transfer.
Glamočić, attending as a delegate of the Serbian President, learned about Ethiopian businesses involved in importing agricultural machinery and inputs, as well as successful exporters of organic coffee, spices, oilseeds, and legumes. Ethiopian university professors briefed him on current economic trends and development plans, emphasizing the agricultural sector.
Ethiopian experts noted that agriculture accounts for 45% of the country’s GDP but faces significant challenges, especially in mechanization and modern technology adoption. They stressed growing food demand and the need for more accessible and efficient solutions in fertilizers, seeds, and agro-technology.
Glamočić affirmed Serbia’s readiness to offer its expertise and capacities, supported by the renewed Serbian diplomatic presence in Addis Ababa, which will play a key role in enhancing bilateral cooperation. He invited Ethiopian entrepreneurs to visit Serbia to explore collaboration opportunities, particularly in agro-industry, machinery production, and food security innovations. The meeting ended with mutual interest in strengthening economic ties grounded in the long-standing political friendship between Serbia and Ethiopia.
