During a brief but productive visit to Tbilisi, Serbian Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade, Jagoda Lazarević, announced significant progress in the cooperation between Serbia and Georgia, particularly in economic relations. A key highlight of the visit was the upcoming launch of direct flights between Belgrade and Tbilisi, which is expected to enhance connectivity between the two countries.
Minister Lazarević met with several high-ranking Georgian officials, including First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili. They agreed to initiate negotiations on a free trade agreement and elevate the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation between Serbia and Georgia to the ministerial level. The next session of this committee is planned to take place in Belgrade by the end of the year, underscoring the commitment to deepen intergovernmental cooperation.
In addition to economic discussions, Minister Lazarević also held meetings with the president of the Georgian Chamber of Economy and Industry, Giorgi Pertaia, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili. These engagements coincided with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Georgia.
Serbia is set to open an embassy in Tbilisi, a move warmly welcomed by Georgian counterparts. Minister Lazarević expressed optimism that the new direct airline connection will strengthen ties, boost tourism, and increase people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
