Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Siniša Mali met in Belgrade with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to discuss joint projects, including the construction of an oil pipeline from Novi Sad to Algyő, scheduled to begin by the end of 2025.
Mali highlighted the focus on strengthening economic ties, ensuring energy stability, developing shared infrastructure projects, and improving border crossings, including establishing “green corridors” at Kelebija–Tompa and Horgoš–Röszke. Key priorities also include building a new gas pipeline from Horgoš to Pojate, developing the Pannonian electricity transmission corridor, and establishing a Serbia–Hungary–Slovenia electricity exchange.
The modernization of the Belgrade–Budapest high-speed railway, which will further connect the two countries, was also emphasized as a major project. Mali thanked Szijjártó for Hungary’s confirmed participation in Expo 2027, describing it as a significant regional business opportunity.
Trade between Serbia and Hungary reached over €2.14 billion in the first seven months of 2025, a 14% increase from the same period last year. Hungarian companies currently employ more than 6,600 workers in Serbia.
Mali noted that Serbia-Hungary relations are at their highest, most friendly level, and expressed confidence in the potential for further cooperation and development between the two countries.
