Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and co-chair of the Serbia-Slovakia mixed committee on economic cooperation Zorana Mihajlovic and Slovakian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajcak signed on Monday an agreement on international combined transport between the two countries.

Mihajlovic and Lajcak said that the agreement will increase the efficiency of transport, improve transport connections and help reduce environmental pollution, the Serbian government’s media office said in a release.

Mihajlovic is on a two-day visit to Slovakia for the sixth meeting of the mixed committee on economic cooperation.

Mihajlovic and Lajcak discussed cooperation opportunities in the fields of energy, railway and roads, and the creation of a business environment in Serbia that would attract Slovakian investors.

Mihajlovic also met on Monday with Slovakia’s Economy Minister and co-chair of the mixed committee Pavol Pavlis. The two officials agreed that there is vast potential for cooperation on projects in infrastructure, transport and other fields.

The delegations of Serbia and Slovakia discussed specific projects, said Mihajlovic after the meeting of the mixed committee, adding that she expects the economic cooperation between the two countries to grow and expand.

Mihajlovic underlined Slovakia’s respect for Serbia, which is expressed in its support to Serbia’s territorial integrity and the EU accession process, but also in the assistance after the catastrophic floods in May this year.
