Along with the construction of the new Port of Belgrade, the location of which is not yet officially known, the state plans to build two more terminals at two locations in Belgrade. For now, it is known that one of them will be located in Krnjača, and the Port Management Agency has announced a tender for the development of a project for a building permit.

It Is, as stated, a permit for the construction of a bulk cargo terminal at the port of Belgrade at a location in Krnjaca. The deadline for the development of the project for the building permit is three years, and the value of the tender is estimated at 141.7 million dinars.

As stated in the technical documentation, the development of the port industry in the area of the city of Belgrade implies that, in addition to the construction of a new port in Belgrade, which would include several dedicated terminals and whose exact location will be determined, the port activity of transshipment of bulk cargo is carried out at two other locations which will make up the port area of the port in Belgrade.

The plan for the detailed regulation of the economic zone between the SMT road, the Pančevo road and the Danube, plans a larger area for port activity on the Danube bank, and within this zone, the construction of a bulk cargo terminal in the port of Belgrade is also planned.

The designed capacities of the terminal should, as stated, enable handling and storage of at least 2,000,000 tons of bulk cargo (aggregates).

At the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure issued location conditions for the phased construction of the bulk cargo terminal in Krnjača. Construction is planned in two phases.

The second stage

The second phase of construction includes the construction of the facilities of the port operators according to the activation dynamics of the entire complex, which is not the subject of this project.

The deadline for submitting bids Is July 4, 2023.

Let us recall that recently the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić announced that the construction of the new Port of Belgrade will be done through a public-private partnership. He pointed out that a location has been determined for the construction of the new Port of Belgrade, and that it will be located on the left bank of the Danube, “a little above the Pupin bridge”.

Let us remind you that this location was in circulation before, along with the Port of Pančevo and the location in Krnjača.

At the end of 2020, the then Assistant Minister for Water Transport Veljko Kovačević stated that the exact location for the construction of a new port in Belgrade was being considered and that three locations had been defined: a location 10 km upstream from the Pupin bridge, a location in Krnjača and Port Pančevo as Belgrade’s port .

He previously stated that the area upstream from the Pupin bridge has the greatest potential, near which the construction of an industrial-technology park in Borča is planned together with partners from China.

It was announced that the construction of the Port of Belgrade could be supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
