During the visit of President Xi Jinping of China to Serbia, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the realm of geology and mining, aiming to coordinate efforts between Belgrade and Beijing in geo-exploration. This encompasses early detection and assessment of mineral resources as well as the development of information systems in geology and mining.

The collaboration extends to academic and research institutions in the field, alongside cooperation between national bodies engaged in geology and mining. Joint efforts will involve bilateral visits, exchange programs, and professional training, fostering expertise exchange and project implementation.

Information obtained from collaborative projects will be shared or kept confidential, respecting agreements reached prior to project commencement. Areas of cooperation include the application of modern technologies, sustainable mineral exploitation, environmental protection, and community welfare enhancement in areas affected by mining activities.

During President Xi’s visit, Serbia and China signed a total of 28 cooperation documents, including the Memorandum of Understanding in geology and mining between the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia and the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.

This memorandum, while not legally binding, aims to strengthen bilateral relations by promoting joint discussions, consultations, and potentially new projects over the course of its five-year duration, with an option for extension. Either party may terminate the memorandum with six months’ prior written notice.
