Mihailo Jovanović, the Director of the Office for IT and e-Government, announced that within the first 100 days of the new government, a Council for Artificial Intelligence has been established, featuring leading experts in the field from Serbia. He highlighted that Serbia will assume the presidency of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) this December.

“The pinnacle of our work in artificial intelligence this year will occur in December when we host the GPAI. Ministers from all OECD member countries will convene in Belgrade for one of the largest gatherings focused on AI this year,” Jovanović stated in an interview with RTS.

He noted that the Serbian government and the Office for IT and e-Government are dedicated to enhancing electronic services and advancing artificial intelligence to make e-Government more accessible and user-friendly for citizens.

“Serbia has made substantial progress in digitalization and the implementation of e-Government. The new government is raising expectations and setting ambitious tasks, prioritizing the digitalization of key sectors in our society,” Jovanović remarked, as reported by Tanjug.

He further explained that the primary mission of the Council for Artificial Intelligence is to identify AI applications across various sectors. “We are actively working on projects that apply AI and will soon present specific proposals and ideas on how this groundbreaking technology can improve our lives,” Jovanović added.

As part of the “Leap into the Future – Serbia 2027” initiative, he unveiled plans for expanding the National Data Center in Kragujevac and announced the upcoming International Conference “AI_for_Life: Biotech Future Forum,” set to take place in late October in Belgrade.

This conference will bring together experts in biotechnology and artificial intelligence from over 15 countries, organized by the government in collaboration with the National Assembly, the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, the Office for IT and e-Government, the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the World Economic Forum, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
