Air Serbia set to launch non-subsidized flights from Niš Airport soon

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has announced that Air Serbia may soon initiate commercial flights from Niš without relying on financial support from the Serbian government.

Minister Goran Vesić shared this update during the signing of a Memorandum aimed at further developing Niš Airport “Konstantin Veliki.” He confirmed, “Air Serbia will be launching a commercial flight from Niš very soon. We are currently in negotiations. This will not be a subsidized flight, but a commercial one.”

However, Vesić did not specify the new destinations that the national airline plans to serve from Niš. While the exact routes remain undisclosed, the portal Flynaissus suggests potential cities like Paris, Zurich, or Berlin as logical options for expansion. It is also unclear whether the new route will commence during this year’s winter flight schedule or at the start of the summer schedule next year.

Currently, Air Serbia operates seven subsidized routes from “Konstantin Veliki” airport, flying to Belgrade, Istanbul, Frankfurt Hahn, Cologne and Ljubljana year-round, with seasonal flights to Athens and Tivat from June to September.

A decision to subsidize these routes was made by the Serbian government a year ago, although the specific subsidy amounts have not been publicly disclosed.
