Data Cloud Technology (DCT) is a company established by the Serbian government in 2020, aimed at providing information society services in a free market, adhering to principles of equality among economic entities.
The company operates within the State Data Center in Kragujevac, which is the most advanced facility of its kind in the region, designed for data and equipment storage. The State Data Center complex spans four hectares and consists of two buildings with a total area of approximately 14,000 square meters, featuring an installed capacity of 14 megawatts (MW) and accommodating 1,080 server racks. The facility is constructed to the highest technical and security standards and is certified as Class 4 under the international standard for data centers—EN 50600 Class 4 (TIA Tier 4).
“This certification guarantees 99.995% availability of our services, placing the State Data Center among only eight data centers in Europe that provide the highest level of data and service security and reliability,” emphasizes Data Cloud Director Danilo Savić in an interview with Biznis.rs.
According to Savić, DCT offers colocation services, allowing clients to set up servers and active networking equipment within the State Data Center.
“In addition to colocation, we provide cloud services, enabling our clients to quickly rent individual virtual servers and storage capacities that meet their business needs, with continuous resource availability. Data Cloud Technology also ensures IT security for our clients’ information systems and offers redundant connections with all existing providers in the data center—because we are carrier neutral,” Savić adds.
He mentions that alongside state institutions, commercial users also store data at the State Data Center in Kragujevac, which DCT manages. He takes particular pride in the partnerships formed with leading global IT companies like Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, and Huawei, which attest to the quality of services and client relationships.
Supporting the claim of the State Data Center’s top-tier capabilities and resources is the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Amazon (AWS) last May, paving the way for collaboration with this globally recognized company. Savić also highlights that Serbia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with CERN for the implementation and exploitation of the World LHC Computing Grid, marking Serbia as the seventh country in Europe and the tenth globally where CERN will store its data.
The continuous growth in the IT sector impacts both the qualified workforce and various business advantages. Regarding the employees at DCT, Savić states that the company has around 50 staff members and emphasizes significant team expansion in the past year to meet job demands, growth, and market pace.
“The growth of the IT sector in Serbia brings numerous advantages for our business. First, it facilitates easier access to talented professionals, contributing to our quality workforce. Additionally, the expanding ecosystem fosters collaboration and partnerships with other companies, which is essential for our market positioning,” he notes.
As for the company’s future plans, Savić stresses that there is already a demand for much larger capacities than currently offered by the State Data Center.
“Our production is growing faster than planned, and we are aware of the increasing needs. It’s our responsibility to continue delivering quality work to maintain and enhance this growth pace. Expanding capacity is already on the agenda, significantly earlier than initially anticipated when opening the Data Center,” concludes Savić.
