The first phase of the Northern Ring Road construction around Kragujevac, which includes the completion of the first five kilometers designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, is expected to be finished and operational by mid-2025. This announcement was made by Aleksandar Milošević, a member of the City Council for Investments and Project Management, as reported on the official city website.

Following the completion of this initial phase, work will continue on the remaining 17 kilometers of the ring road. Currently, asphalting is underway on the first two kilometers of the five-kilometer stretch between the Jovanovac interchange and the Petrovac interchange.

Milošević explained that the contract for the project came into effect at the end of last year, with the consortium allocated one year for design and three years for construction. After just nine months of work, the first stretch of asphalt has already been laid. The City of Kragujevac is currently carrying out the expropriation process for the second phase, which covers the remaining 17 kilometers, based on a proposal from Roads of Serbia.

The new ring road is expected to greatly alleviate traffic congestion in Kragujevac, particularly in the Lepenički and Bulevar Kralja Marije areas. The Northern Ring Road will provide a more efficient traffic route, easing the flow of transit traffic through the city center and significantly reducing air pollution.

“The ring road will relieve congestion on the city’s main boulevards, as heavy traffic from Topola and Batočina to Kraljevo and Čačak will be redirected to the ring road,” Milošević stated. Additionally, he emphasized that a new industrial zone will be developed along the Northern Ring Road, further boosting the city’s infrastructure and economic potential.
