Once, well-known Serbian and Yugoslav construction firms were heavily involved in large-scale projects across Africa. Today, however, the trend appears to have reversed, with African expertise in construction now poised to make its way to Serbia. This shift was highlighted during a recent meeting between Nikola Nikodijević, President of the Belgrade City Assembly, and an official Egyptian delegation led by the President of the Egyptian Senate, Abdel Wahab Abdel Razak. During the meeting, Egyptian construction companies expressed strong interest in participating in major infrastructure projects in Belgrade.

While Serbia still offers many opportunities to Egypt, the construction sector is no longer the focal point of their potential collaboration. As Nikodijević emphasized, “There is significant potential for successful economic cooperation,” with promising areas for Serbian companies to explore, particularly in the fields of IT, agriculture and telecommunications.

According to Beoinfo, the next step will be to strengthen ties between the Chambers of Commerce in Belgrade and Cairo, aiming to foster greater business exchanges.

Nikodijević also discussed the possibility of enhancing cultural cooperation, noting that both Egypt and Serbia share a rich cultural and historical heritage spanning thousands of years, providing ample opportunities for future collaboration in this area.
