In 2023, Serbia had 248,906 registered entrepreneurs employing 265,900 workers, according to the Republic Statistical Office. The total revenue generated by these entrepreneurs exceeded 2.3 trillion dinars (around 20 billion euros).
In terms of regional distribution, the Belgrade region accounted for 71,079 entrepreneurs (28.6% of the total), while the Vojvodina region had 62,446 entrepreneurs (25.1%). The Å umadija and Western Serbia region saw 70,765 entrepreneurs (28.4%), and the Southern and Eastern Serbia region had 44,616 entrepreneurs (17.9%).
When analyzing sectors, the largest share of entrepreneurs operated in “Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles” (17%), followed closely by “Professional, Scientific, Innovative, and Technical Activities” (16.9%), and the “Manufacturing Industry” (14.1%). Other significant sectors included “Construction” (10.7%), “Transportation and Storage” (8.7%), and “Other Services” (7.2%).
Among the total number of workers employed by entrepreneurs (265,900), the Belgrade region had 60,109 employees (22.6%), while Vojvodina employed 75,486 workers (28.4%). The Å umadija and Western Serbia region had 78,156 employees (29.4%), and the Southern and Eastern Serbia region had 52,149 (19.6%).
Sector-wise, the largest shares of employed workers were found in “Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles” (22.4%), followed by the “Manufacturing Industry” (21.6%) and “Construction” (14.4%).
In terms of revenue distribution, the entrepreneurs from the Belgrade region generated 26.1% of total revenue, while those from Vojvodina accounted for 25.3%. The Å umadija and Western Serbia region had the highest share at 31.1%, and the Southern and Eastern Serbia region contributed 17.5%.
The sector generating the most revenue was “Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles,” with over 750 billion dinars, representing 32.3% of total revenue. The “Manufacturing Industry” followed with 18.5% (over 430 billion dinars), and “Construction” accounted for 13.6% (just over 300 billion dinars).
