At the COP29 conference on climate change, a significant event titled “Play responsibly, play for humanity” was held, aligning with the theme of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, “Play for Humanity”. This event, hosted in the Azerbaijan pavilion, served as a platform for Serbia to showcase its commitment to the green agenda and sustainable development. The event was a demonstration of the growing cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan, with this collaboration underscored by the friendship between Presidents Aleksandar Vučić of Serbia and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.

Following President Vučić’s keynote address at the plenary session of the summit, a gathering of diplomats, high-ranking officials, and conference delegates came together to learn about Serbia’s plans to integrate sustainable practices into the organization of EXPO 2027. Narmin Jarčalova, Chief Operating Officer of COP29, emphasized the importance of global collaboration to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which align with the key priorities of both EXPO 2027 and COP29, as stated by Sara Pavkov, State Secretary of Serbia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Serbia’s participation at COP29: A global opportunity for sustainability

Serbia’s participation in such a high-profile event during COP29, which brought together over 70 world leaders and senior officials from across the globe, provides a unique opportunity to position the country as a leader in sustainable development. Both EXPO 2027 and COP29 serve as platforms that can drive substantial change in global environmental awareness and action.
