Serbia and Japan strengthen economic ties: Prime Minister invites Japanese investment

Prime Minister of Serbia Miloš Vučević met with Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa in Belgrade, highlighting the growing intensity of bilateral economic relations. Vučević expressed satisfaction that Japanese investors are recognizing Serbia’s advantages as a leader in innovative technologies and artificial intelligence in the region.

Vučević invited Japanese investors to consider the Serbian market, emphasizing its favorable business climate, particularly for information technology investments. He also noted the potential for cooperation with Japan in environmental protection, leveraging Japan’s expertise in this area.

The Prime Minister welcomed the interest of both countries in collaborating on energy projects, including the construction and financing of RHE Bistrica, and other environmental initiatives. He highlighted the upcoming EXPO 2027, which Serbia hopes to use as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with Japan, especially in light of EXPO 2025 being hosted in Osaka.

Vučević also reiterated Serbia’s commitment to regional peace and stability, expressing concern over the situation in Kosovo and Metohija. He stressed the need for pressure on Pristina to resume dialogue and end the violence against the Serbian population in the region.

Minister Kamikawa noted that Serbia and Japan are celebrating 142 years of diplomatic relations, with Serbia being a key partner for Japan in the region. She announced that 34 Japanese companies are successfully operating in Serbia and affirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Serbia’s stability and development.
