The first conference of the global dialogue on the most pressing issues of the green transition has kicked off in Belgrade, organized by the Sustainable Development Forum (SDF), in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and United Nations agencies. SDF 2024 brings together some of the world’s most influential experts, policymakers, and leaders from both domestic and international companies committed to sustainable development. The focus of the event is the global impact of the triple planetary crisis—climate change, pollution and the loss of biodiversity.
In his opening remarks, SDF 2024 organizer Kosta Živanović stressed that the forum aims to create a platform for leaders, innovators and change-makers dedicated to building a more sustainable, just, and resilient future.
“I am thrilled to see such a diverse gathering of experts and visionaries, representing not just industries but ideas that can transform the way we think, act, and collaborate,” Živanović said. “As we tackle key issues such as climate change, the transition to sustainable energy, and global health, it’s clear that no single sector can solve these challenges alone. That’s why today’s discussions will focus on collaboration, innovation, and action. It’s important that countries, companies, and communities work together. For Serbia and the region, this is a pivotal moment—we not only have the chance to learn from global best practices, but also to actively contribute to the green transition. Our entrepreneurs, policymakers, and innovators have a significant role to play, and this forum is designed to empower them to take bold steps forward.”
One of the keynote speakers, Michael Polit, a Business Economics professor from the University of Cambridge and a leading expert in the energy field, emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change. He said, “We know what we need to do, and we’re all aware of the reality of climate change. It’s essential to listen to science, and everyone agrees on that. But making progress will be difficult, and we need a ‘miracle’ in terms of public opinion. A change of mind and heart can bring about system changes, and we’ve seen similar moments in history.”
The conference, which takes place on November 14-15, features seven panels and several keynotes, with one panel specifically addressing the challenges of financing the green transition. Media partners of the event include BIZLife and Odrzime.rs ESG Web Platform.
