The Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, emphasized the need for public debate and expert consultations regarding the exploitation of lithium near Loznica. At the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on nuclear energy development, she highlighted the importance of clarifying and analyzing aspects of the “Jadar” project, underscoring the global recognition and legal framework it has garnered.

Regarding whether the government should issue a statement on the project or await the Constitutional Court’s decision, the minister stressed the importance of having scientific and institutional prerequisites in place before making decisions, similar to the approach taken with the nuclear energy memorandum signed that day.

She emphasized the necessity of balanced scientific and professional assessment, advocating for a broader discussion that has been lacking in the past concerning such significant projects.
