In a recent interview on Prva television, Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović announced that Serbia has reinstated plans for the “Jadar” project. This decision follows a Constitutional Court ruling that deemed the government’s earlier decision to halt the project unconstitutional. Emphasizing adherence to Serbia’s legal framework, the minister underscored the government’s commitment to conducting the project in compliance with national laws and stringent environmental standards.

Đedović Handanović highlighted the strategic importance of mining to Serbia’s economy, noting ongoing efforts to update mining legislation to bolster industry development and safeguard national interests. She emphasized the “Jadar” project’s potential to enhance Serbia’s industrial footprint, particularly in lithium extraction critical for European and global markets. The project is expected to generate significant local employment and infrastructure development, positioning Serbia favorably in Europe’s industrial landscape.

Addressing recent electricity consumption peaks during high temperatures, the minister assured that measures were in place to manage energy demands effectively. She detailed planned upgrades to key energy infrastructure, including the long-awaited revitalization of the Bajina Bašta hydropower plant, essential for ensuring energy security amid evolving market conditions.
