Minister of Finance Siniša Mali reached an agreement with representatives of domestic transporters to enhance the excise duty refund for fuel purchased for transporting passengers and cargo in domestic road traffic.
Mali confirmed that this increase, requested by transporters, will be included in the amendments to the Excise Law, which are expected to be presented in parliament alongside the 2025 budget proposal.
“The planned increase will benefit all entities previously eligible for excise duty rebates for transporting cargo and passengers—covering international and domestic transport, as well as transport for personal use,” the minister explained.
He emphasized the significance of the transport sector to the economy and noted that the forthcoming measures align with the demands of domestic carriers.
“We anticipate that this measure will enhance the economic position of those involved in cargo and passenger transport, particularly within domestic road transport,” Mali stated.
He highlighted the expected positive outcomes of this measure, including a reduction in the gray economy within the transport sector and the elimination of conditions that foster unfair competition.
In addition to curbing the gray economy, Mali believes this initiative will improve working conditions for carriers and enhance the quality of life for employees in the industry.
“This is a prime example of successful and constructive dialogue, resulting in the best possible solution. We are addressing a long-standing issue, and we believe this will ensure stable employment in the transport sector and contribute to the growth of our GDP,” concluded the Minister of Finance.
