Analyzing ICT employment trends: A comparison between the EU and Serbia

In 2023, the information and communication technologies (ICT) sector in the European Union employed 9.8 million professionals, constituting 4.8 percent of the total workforce. Similarly, in Serbia, 4.3 percent of employees were engaged in this sector, according to Eurostat.

The data indicates a rising trend in the share of ICT workers in the EU, with an increase of 1.5 percentage points since 2013.

Among EU member states, Sweden boasts the highest proportion of ICT experts relative to the total workforce at 8.7%, followed by Luxembourg (8%) and Finland (7.6%). Conversely, Greece and Romania had the smallest share, each below 3 percent.

The representation of women in the ICT sector at the EU level stood at 19.4%, reflecting a rise of 2.7 percentage points since 2013. Bulgaria leads with the highest female participation among employed ICT specialists at 29%, while the Czech Republic has the lowest at 12%.
