Serbia’s Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Jelena Begović, engaged in discussions today with Zuang Yong, Chairman of the Board of Directors at China’s Shandong International. The Chinese company expressed keen interest in furthering collaboration with Serbia by establishing a new Science and Technology Incubation Center in the country, as announced by the ministry.
Begović emphasized the significance of new technologies for Serbia, noting the nation’s notable achievements in the ICT sector over the past decade, which has emerged as a key export sector. She highlighted the substantial creation of startup companies in this realm, attributing much of this success to Serbia’s robust education system in STEM fields.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of Chinese partners in Serbia’s governmental endeavors, Begović stressed the importance of cooperation. Zuang Yong echoed this sentiment, underscoring their company’s commitment to supporting state objectives in science and technology. He proposed the establishment of an incubation center in collaboration with the Serbian ministry, envisioning enhanced accessibility for Chinese innovations in Serbia and vice versa.
Zuang Yong suggested formalizing this commitment through a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation and Shandong International. Both parties expressed willingness to engage in further discussions regarding these proposals.
Shandong International, a state-owned enterprise based in China’s Shandong province, boasts a significant presence in Serbia with 150 employees. The company has successfully executed over ten major projects in the country, including the E-763 highway, the Chinese Cultural Center in Belgrade, the central Valjevo highway, and the Danube Corridor.
