Serbia, China and Hungary have agreed to start talks as soon as possible on the modernization of the transport corridor to the Greek port of Piraeus.
This was announced on Wednesday in Budapest by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic.
The Serbian government said that after the trilateral meeting of China, Hungary and Serbia dedicated to the reconstruction and modernization of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, Mihajlovic “explained that these will be primarily talks with the Republic of Macedonia and Greece on the modernization of the entire railway line to the port of Piraeus.”
The next trilateral meeting will be held in Beijing in January, and until then works will be done on the beginning of reconstruction of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, but also on preparations for connecting Belgrade and Budapest with Greece.
Mihajlovic pointed out that the Serbian side is ready to start this summer with the modernization of the railway at which the speed will be 200 kilometers per hour.
“Until now Serbia has done all that was necessary as a precondition. The Hungarian side is making a little bit slower progress, while the Serbian side goes a few steps ahead,” she stated.
