Serbia’s Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (Ratel) has completed the public auction for allocating 5G radio frequency spectrum, held from 3 to 7 November.

According to today’s announcement, all three mobile operators—Telekom Srbija, Yettel, and A1 Srbija—participated in the process. The allocated spectrum will allow operators to provide mobile services, including 5G technology.

Issuance of licenses and launch of 5G services

Once operators pay the first half of the license fee, Ratel will issue individual permits for spectrum use. The licenses are expected to be issued in the first week of December, enabling all three operators to begin commercial 5G services shortly afterward.

How much revenue did the state collect?

The auction generated slightly more than €300 million in total revenue.

  • Telekom Srbija: €100,050,530
  • Yettel: €100,028,170
  • A1 Srbija: €100,020,730

Operators must pay the first half of the amount within 15 days, and the second half by 30 June 2026.

Coverage obligations

As part of the licensing conditions, each operator is required to improve mobile signal coverage in five municipalities currently lacking adequate service.

  • Telekom Srbija: Krupanj, Osečina, Medveđa, Trgovište, Bosilegrad
  • Yettel: Ljubovija, Babušnica, Gadžin Han, Golubac, Svrljig
  • A1 Srbija: Kosjerić, Crna Trava, Kučevo, Majdanpek, Boljevac

These obligations aim to increase nationwide connectivity and ensure that underserved areas benefit from improved mobile and 5G coverage.
