The Ministry of Agriculture has launched inspections to enforce the regulation requiring mandatory labeling of products containing palm oil or other vegetable fats or oils that resemble dairy products in appearance or name. The regulation came into effect on August 1.
Inspections are being conducted across retail chains, processing industries, and distribution centers throughout Serbia to ensure compliance.
Agriculture Minister Dragan Glamočić emphasized that consumers will not be misled.
Products that do not contain milk but look or are named similarly to cheese, sour cream, or other dairy products must be clearly and visibly labeled. This measure aims to protect consumers and support domestic production and fair trade.
Authorities will strictly enforce the law without tolerance for violations.
Products placed on the market before August 1 without proper labeling can be sold only until their expiration date or until December 31, 2025, at the latest.
Consumers are encouraged to report violations through official ministry channels.
Violations may result in fines of up to 3 million dinars for legal entities and bans on the sale of non-compliant products.
Inspections will intensify in the coming days, and all offenders will face legal sanctions.
