Serbia gets another mine and becomes the second copper producer in Europe

Another mine will be opened in our country soon.
Namely, the Ministry of Mining and Energy issued a decision approving the construction of mining facilities and mining works for the copper and gold mine Cukaru Peki to the company Zijin Mining.
The mining project envisages an annual production of 3.3 million tons of copper and gold ore, and the exploitation reserves amount to 36,990,000 tons of ore.
The total value of investments in the “Cukaru Peki” project is 474 million euros, it is added in the announcement of the mentioned ministry.
“With the opening of this mine, which is planned in the last quarter of 2021, Serbia will become the second largest producer of copper in Europe, after Poland, and its share in the production of this ore will increase from the current five to 18 percent,” the ministry concluded, B92 reports.
