Serbian Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić participated in the opening of the Second United Nations Summit on Food Systems (UNFSS+4) in Addis Ababa, highlighting Serbia’s strong agricultural tradition and ongoing investments in digitization and innovation to build the agriculture of the future.
The summit, officially opened by Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, focused on the global priority of food security. Glamočić stressed Serbia’s commitment to strengthening its food systems to ensure stable domestic supply and contribute to global food security.
He referenced the UN Secretary-General’s report underscoring the increasing importance of transforming food systems worldwide. While some countries advance by enshrining the right to food in laws and constitutions, challenges remain in securing sustainable financing and supporting small producers.
Glamočić emphasized Serbia’s focus on increasing investment in rural digitization, knowledge, and innovation, with special attention to supporting youth, women, and small farms. Serbia is developing systems to better connect production and markets while enhancing resilience to climate and market disruptions.
The summit reinforced Serbia’s resolve to continue reforms and advocate for fair access to agricultural financing, noting that without sufficient investment and international solidarity, global food security cannot be achieved.
He reaffirmed Serbia’s role as a partner to nations and organizations that promote fair trade, healthy food, inclusive rural development, and universal access to quality nutrition, describing the summit as both a diplomatic event and a responsibility to Serbian citizens.
Following the plenary sessions, Glamočić held bilateral talks with agricultural officials from Uzbekistan, Equatorial Guinea, and Seychelles, focusing on enhancing cooperation in agriculture and scientific-technological development. He also expressed gratitude for their support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and their non-recognition of Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration.
