The third scientific-investment international conference SEE ENERGY – Connect & Supply III 2021 on the topic “Production of green energy in order to protect the environment and sustainable use of agro and wood biomass” was held on 6 and 7 October.
The organizer, the National Biomass Association “SERBIO” in partnership with GIZ DKTI, presented over 250 participants on both days with the current business and legal environment, as well as provided a platform for connecting domestic and international companies involved in the renewable energy sector.
The two-day event brought together all three ministries, which is their first joint meeting in the last few years, which sends a very important message, and that is that Serbia has given a serious focus on increasing the use of more environmentally friendly energy sources, which should result in a healthier environment, SERBIO said.
The conference was opened by Zoran Lakicevic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy, as well as State Secretaries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, Senad Mahmutovic and State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection Ivana Hadzi Stosic.
The representative of GIZ DKTI, partner of the conference, Aleksandar Popovic, presented the projects implemented within the Green Sector and announced the future focus of GIZ organization in solar energy projects, ie the use and potential of photovoltaic panels on roofs of houses, public buildings and business buildings.
Dragan Urosević, from the UNDP organization, presented the project of energy renovation of public buildings in Serbia and premiered the project which refers to the support of the energy management system in public buildings and energy efficiency with the support of legal regulations.
The German development bank KFW and Simon Martz, through ZOOM involvement, presented the projects it financed in cooperation with the Ministry of Mining and Energy, biomass heating plants in Priboj, Mali Zvornik and Novi Market. Bojan Bogdanovic from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development presented the financial II in detail institutional support for investment projects by the EBRD.
In his address to the audience, the general sponsor of the conference Energotehnika Juzna Backa and Marko Milic presented two projects financed according to the German KfW example, and in their implementation – a biomass heating plant in Priboj and Mali Zvornik. The environmental benefit brought by this investment is best evidenced by the fact that more than 20,000 citizens of Priboj were heated by fuel oil, which is environmentally unacceptable. Energotehnika Juzna Backa has built a new boiler plant with a capacity of 8 MW on wood chips with two spare boilers of 7.5 MW each. The heating plant in Priboj is the first city biomass heating plant and the city of Priboj has made a completely new district heating system since this heating season.
Polytechnik Regional Manager Viktor Radic presented an innovative solution in the use of biomass for energy needs – POLY H.E.L.D.
– Improving efficiency, reducing operational costs, energy savings are just some of the advantages of the new technology that offers a completely new future in bioenergy – announced Radic.
Hargassner Industry (GIILES GMBH) and Lukas Kraemer presented the company with 37 years of experience in the production of modern boilers, technology and fully automatic pellet and wood chip boilers.
Jasmin Purišević from the company Urbas presented the technology and plant that is currently being implemented in Novi Pazar by KfW, and its work is expected in October next year. Jenbacher and Teki Suajibi presented various applications of cogeneration and the use of municipal waste to obtain electricity and heat.
Green hydrogen
As one of the proposals for reducing carbon dioxide and increasing the presence of clean energy, it is already widely used in Europemmentions green hydrogen.
Danijel Buksa from the company Siemens energy presented the cycle of obtaining green hydrogen, its application and importance. Green hydrogen can greatly contribute to achieving the set climate goals, in several sectors: industry, mobility, production of heat and electricity. That is why Siemens Energy sees it as the key to a successful turnaround in the energy sector in the future.
Jenbacher presented the importance of their investments in H2 and the reason why they are increasingly turning to green hydrogen. The company’s goal is to use hydrogen in a very efficient way in the near future and thus enable the production of electricity and heat in a completely new way.
Dejan Stojanovic, moderator of the session, director of the Business Association “Heating Plants of Serbia”, mentioned that in order to increase the number of newly connected customers to the district heating system in the future, it is necessary to conduct an active campaign to understand all the advantages these systems provide.
“It is necessary to explain to those who use electricity for heating that a price increase is necessary, given that Serbia currently has the lowest prices in Europe.”
The second day of the conference dedicated to logistics and systems for collecting and transporting biomass from both agro and wood assortments, was attended by an interesting discussion by representatives of the Cooperative Union of Vojvodina, the company R.T.I. and the Guarantee Fund of Vojvodina. The company ITN presented its agricultural mechanization, and in the session on wood biomass, JP Srbijasume, Vojvodina sume, as well as the Faculty of Forestry held their presentations.
The conclusion is that our wood volume and its value are constantly increasing, as well as the environmental and social function of forests. In the “Investment Loans” session, ERSTE Bank presented its loans and financial support to agribusiness, while Djordje Maric from the Regional Association of Private Forest Owners Omorika dedicated himself to purposefully directing funds from the budget fund for forests at the local level.
The participants of the conference agree that it is necessary to work permanently on the energy transition towards self-sustainability, development of the market of renewable energy sources and their greater use, all with the aim of achieving energy security and independence and ensuring a healthier environment.
The mission of the National Association is to actively contribute to the sustainable development of the bioenergy sector in Serbia, participating in projects, but also informing the public through conferences and workshops, not only on the topic of bioenergy as one of the sources of renewable energy, but also other sources such as solar, geothermal and wind energy, the conference report said, eKapija reports.
