In May 2025, Serbia issued 2,226 construction permits, a 9.5% decrease compared to the same month last year, the Republic Bureau of Statistics reported. Of these permits, 85.8% were for buildings and 14.2% for other structures such as pipelines and communication lines.
Among building permits, 81.7% were for residential buildings, while 18.3% were for non-residential. The construction permits correspond to 3,549 new apartments, averaging 68.2 m² in size. Notably, 8.7% of these apartments will be in single-apartment buildings averaging 146.2 m², while 90.3% will be in buildings with three or more apartments, averaging 60.0 m².
The total projected value of new construction works in May represents 84.7% of all projected construction values. By region, the highest activity is expected in Belgrade (29.0%), followed by Šumadija (15.0%), Juznoba (10.4%), Mačva (8.6%), Raška (7.2%), and Nišava (5.6%), with other regions each accounting for up to 4.0%.
