Serbia issues 2,542 building permits in August 2025, slight decline from last year

In August 2025, a total of 2,542 building permits were issued in Serbia, representing a 1.4 percent decrease compared to the same period last year, according to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS).

Of the total permits issued in August, 87.2 percent were for buildings and 12.8 percent for other structures. Focusing on buildings, 85.6 percent of the permits were for residential buildings, while 14.4 percent were for non-residential buildings. Among other structures, the majority of permits were for pipelines, communication lines, and electrical wiring, accounting for 80.3 percent.

The permits issued in August 2025 included the construction of 2,665 apartments, with an average area of 75.7 square meters. Of these, 13.6 percent will be in single-apartment buildings, with an average size of 146.1 square meters, while 85.2 percent will be in buildings with three or more apartments, averaging 63.7 square meters per unit.

The estimated value of new construction work in August 2025 accounted for 81.1 percent of the total planned construction value. By region, the highest construction activity is expected in the Belgrade area, representing 45 percent of the planned new construction value, followed by the South Banat region (7.5 percent), Central Banat (7.1 percent), North Bačka (4.1 percent), and Pomoravlje (4.1 percent), with other regions contributing between 0.1 and 3.5 percent.
