A public call for local self-government units and city municipalities to participate in the project for subsidizing energy efficiency measures in households for this year was announced today and will be open until May 23, announced the Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović.

She invited local self-government units to allocate funds for subsidizing energy efficiency measures in households this year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Mining and Energy. “We have secured sufficient funds, and there is strong interest from citizens in subsidies,” said the Minister, adding that the Ministry expects that cities and municipalities will start announcing public calls for citizens during the summer.

She highlighted that, starting this year, socially vulnerable citizens will be able to apply for subsidies in all local self-governments participating in the project.

“This year, subsidies for the most vulnerable, who, in addition to being classified as energy-poor customers, can receive subsidies of up to 90% of the cost of household renovation, will be available in all cities and municipalities, which will facilitate applications and hopefully increase their participation in the state assistance program,” she said.

She emphasized that the scope of citizens considered socially vulnerable has been expanded to include other categories.

“In addition to energy-poor customers, other socially vulnerable citizens who are recipients of financial social assistance, child benefits, or increased allowances for personal care and assistance, as well as pensioners with the lowest pensions and disabled workers, will be able to apply for subsidies of up to 90% of the cost of the works. This provides them with stronger support to reduce energy consumption, save money, and improve living comfort,” the Minister explained.

Đedović Handanović mentioned that, starting this year, local self-governments will organize informational days for citizens and local media at least 10 days before announcing public calls to familiarize them with the application process and the benefits of investing in energy efficiency. After the announcement of the public call, as in previous years, citizens will have 10 days to gather documentation and submit applications.

She also added that the public call includes more favorable conditions for economically devastated local self-governments, which will be allocated at least two million dinars by the Ministry for participation in the project, as well as for cities and municipalities with high levels of air pollution, where higher Ministry contributions are foreseen.

She pointed out that by improving energy efficiency in households, energy savings between 20% and 40% can be achieved, depending on the energy renovation measures, and that the state will continue to support this initiative.

The Minister reminded that citizens can receive subsidies ranging from 50% to 65% of the investment value for replacing windows, insulation, facades, roofs, inefficient boilers, and installing solar collectors and panels for electricity production for personal use.

“Last year, we approved subsidies for energy renovation of about 12,500 households in 137 cities and municipalities across Serbia. This project, which we are implementing with the World Bank, will continue until the end of 2027, by which time we aim to renovate over 50,000 households,” she stated.

The public call has been posted on the Ministry of Mining and Energy’s website.
