The company Infrastruktura železnice Srbije has submitted a request to the Ministry of Environmental Protection to determine the need for an environmental impact assessment for the phased construction and relocation of a section of railway line 218 Mala Krsna–Bor–Rasputnica 2 (Vražogrnac), specifically the segment passing through the Bor Mine zone. The request was prepared by the Traffic Institute CIP.
The section in question spans from kilometer 216+577.77 to Bor passenger station, with a total length of 4.62 kilometers.
The relocation is necessary to allow continued copper ore extraction at the Jama Mine, under plans by Serbia Zijin Copper, and to mitigate safety risks posed to the existing route by the old open-pit Bor mine.
The new railway alignment begins immediately after the exit of the existing T1 tunnel (706 m) at km 216+579.08 and ends at km 221+203.42, where it reconnects with the existing line. Most of the route is planned through tunnels due to terrain configuration and the need to maintain a protected zone relative to mining operations.
Two tunnels are planned along this section. Tunnel T1, 561 meters long (from km 216+937 to km 217+498), will include evacuation platforms and service stations. Tunnel T2, 3,569 meters long (from km 217+601 to km 221+170), will feature a parallel evacuation tunnel of 2,526 meters with a vertical emergency exit.
At the point where the route intersects with the city collector, T2 will merge with an existing 563.1-meter tunnel and continue to Bor passenger station.
In addition to the tunnels, a new single-track railway bridge, 29 meters long, is planned at km 217+563.33 to cross the Valja Dosuli stream and a ravine. The bridge will be constructed as a three-span reinforced concrete structure.
The planned speed for trains on this section will be 80 km/h.
