Assistant to the Minister of Mining and Energy, Jovana Joksimović, announced that Serbia will meet the prerequisites for merging its electricity market with the European Union market during this summer. This progress follows amendments to the Energy Act that incorporated key provisions of the European Clean Energy Package into Serbian legislation. Additionally, the adoption of relevant by-laws and EU directives this summer fulfills the necessary conditions for market integration, a development recognized by the Energy Community Secretariat, which ranked Serbia as a leading country in this area.

Joksimović highlighted Serbia’s substantial reforms in the electricity sector, noting that since 2017 the country has maintained a fully functional “day ahead” electricity market, and since 2023 also operates an “intraday market,” aligning with EU legal standards.

Regarding energy poverty, Joksimović stated Serbia aims to reduce energy poverty by 75% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. Concrete measures to achieve this goal are outlined in the Western Balkans Growth Plan and the Reform Agenda until 2027, which include the adoption of a dedicated Action Plan focused on alleviating energy poverty.
