Opening the Consumer Electronics & Home Appliances Fair (CE&HA) at Belgrade fairgrounds, Ljajic underlined that the electronics industry, telecommunications and IT technology make a significant contribution to the gross domestic product of Serbia.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that during the 1990s there was a halt in the domestic electronics industry, but that trend changed in 2000.

He specified that from 2000 to 2010, foreign investments in the field of electronics industry amounted to €168 million, while exports of the products of that industry in 2010 were worth €220 million, which speaks about its potential.

Speaking about telecommunications, the value of foreign investment in 2011 was €243 million, while telecommunications operators generated profits worth €1.6 billion, which is 5.6% of Serbia’s GDP, Ljajic said.

He added that the Serbian government has so far financed over 18 projects in the field of electronics industry and given considerable incentives to the companies that invested in that field.

This is the second CE&HA fair in a row that is held in Belgrade and it will be open from 13 to 16 September.

The fair will gather over 100 exhibitors – manufacturers of computers, TV sets, video and audio equipment, home appliances and machines, as well as companies providing telecommunication services.
