The Republic Statistical Office (RZS) announced a significant upward revision of Serbia’s export data for 2024 and the first four months of 2025. The total correction amounts to €2.28 billion, with exports from January to April 2025 alone nearly €1 billion higher than initially reported.
Exports for 2024 were adjusted from €29.2 billion to €30.5 billion, and for the first four months of 2025 from €9.88 billion to €10.86 billion. This revision is attributed to previously unrecorded exports from free zones due to new customs procedures, incorporated after joint analysis with Eurostat.
This adjustment drastically changes the economic outlook: the 2024 current account deficit shrinks from 6.3% to 4.7% of GDP, and the deficit for Q1 2025 falls from 7% to 3.4%. Experts warn that such changes in net exports require consistent updates in other national account components and balance of payments items to avoid distortions in foreign exchange reserves.
The Fiscal Council stressed the urgent need to improve the accuracy and reliability of statistical data from RZS, noting that recent revisions—including GDP adjustments—significantly alter Serbia’s economic picture. RZS will publish the final 2024 data on July 15, 2025, and all figures remain subject to further revision until then.
