The Director of Srbijagas, Dušan Bajatović, stated that Serbia will not face any gas shortages, emphasizing that the country has the ability to purchase natural gas from multiple sources. He also announced that an agreement on a new gas arrangement with Russia is expected next week.
Speaking in the Serbian Parliament, Bajatović said the upcoming gas deal with Russia would be “favorable both in price and flexibility.”
“In addition to the agreement with the Russians, which I expect next week, the arrangement will be good in terms of price and flexibility. If necessary, we can also purchase LNG. We have an alternative supply option that avoids fuel-oil substitution—from Greece, from Hungary, and essentially from Germany. We also have reserves of nearly 600 million cubic meters, and we need a maximum of 800 million for the first three months. Serbia is not in a vulnerable position when it comes to gas,” Bajatović stated.
He added that the Banatski Dvor storage facility currently holds 750 million cubic meters of natural gas, that EPS has secured its annual fuel-oil needs, and that the State Commodity Reserves are fully stocked.
Bajatović also noted that the Belgrade Heating Plants can themselves substitute up to three million cubic meters of gas per day with fuel oil, stressing that “no matter how you calculate it—even financially—there will be no problems with gas supply.”
