Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, held talks with the Russian Ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, focusing on joint projects and initiatives in the energy sector. She emphasized the goal of continuing strong cooperation and finalizing a new long-term gas supply agreement with Gazprom.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Đedović Handanović stressed that secure and stable gas deliveries are crucial for Serbia’s energy security, and that a strategic partnership with Russia in this field is of great importance for the country.
“Our goal is to maintain good cooperation and conclude a new long-term gas supply agreement with Gazprom. This will strengthen our energy security and ensure reliable gas deliveries under the most favorable conditions for our citizens and industry, as has been the case in the past,” she said.
Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko noted that Russia is interested in establishing cooperation with Serbia in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The minister added that a preliminary technical study on the peaceful use of nuclear energy in Serbia has been completed, and the next steps for development have been defined. However, the potential construction of a nuclear power plant remains a long-term prospect, the statement added.
