Over the past decade, Serbia has steadily emerged as one of the leading technology centers in Southeast Europe. The IT sector now represents one of the country’s most important export industries, generating billions of euros in revenue annually and employing tens of thousands of engineers and developers.

Exports of information and communication technology services have expanded rapidly, reaching more than €3.5 billion per year, driven by demand from the United States, Western Europe and regional markets. The majority of Serbia’s IT exports consist of software development services, outsourcing contracts and digital product design.

Major global technology companies such as Microsoft, NCR, Schneider Electric, Oracle and IBM operate development centers in Serbia. These facilities employ thousands of local engineers and contribute to the growth of the country’s technology ecosystem.

Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, has become a hub for startup activity, while Novi Sad has developed a strong reputation as a center for software engineering and research. The Novi Sad Science and Technology Park, for example, hosts numerous startups and technology companies working in fields ranging from artificial intelligence to robotics.

The expansion of the technology sector is supported by government incentives for innovation and research. Tax incentives for technology companies and startup support programs have helped attract investment and encourage entrepreneurship.
