Public Enterprise “Srbijagas” announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with North Macedonia’s national gas transmission system operator “Nomagas” AD to strengthen cooperation in Southeast Europe and establish a regional energy market aligned with the EU internal energy market.

The MoU was signed in Belgrade by the general directors of Srbijagas and Nomagas, Dušan Bajatović and Muhamet Elmazi. This agreement confirms the political intent expressed in a previous MoU between the energy ministries of Serbia and North Macedonia, focusing on connecting energy markets, enhancing gas supply security, and diversifying supply routes.

Both parties intend to soon implement the construction of a gas interconnector between Serbia and North Macedonia, which will facilitate bi-directional gas flow of 1.5 billion cubic meters annually. The interconnector will connect the existing Klečovce pipeline in North Macedonia and the gas pipeline in Vranje, Serbia. The pipeline will be approximately 70 kilometers long (47 km in Serbia, 23 km in North Macedonia), with a diameter of 500 mm and operating pressure of 55 bar.

Separately, Srbijagas also signed an MoU with Romanian company “SNTGN Transgaz SA”, defining cooperation principles to coordinate activities between the two companies. The agreement was signed in Bucharest by Srbijagas’ general director Dušan Bajatović and Transgaz’ general director Ion Sterian.

Both companies agreed to jointly prepare and present, by September 2025, a plan to realize the project for interconnecting the Romanian and Serbian national gas transmission systems. This project includes constructing a new pipeline linking Romania’s BRUA transmission system to Serbia’s Mokrin technological hub.

Plans also include the construction of the South Mokrin – PSG Banatski Dvor – Pančevo – Belgrade pipeline.

The Srbijagas statement emphasizes that the Romania-Serbia interconnection is strategically important for both countries, especially amid the current energy context that demands supply diversification, enhanced gas supply security, balanced supply and demand, and facilitation of cross-border gas transport operations between EU member states and relevant non-EU and third countries.
