Serbia is set to enhance its water security with the construction of the “Selova” dam and reservoir, alongside new water supply investments, which will provide safe and high-quality water to around half a million residents.
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, Dragan Glamočić, discussed the project with Niš Mayor Dragoslav Pavlović, Republic Water Directorate Director Maja Grbić, and Srbijavoda Director Goran Puzović, highlighting the importance of long-term solutions through inter-institutional cooperation.
The Selova dam, ranked among Serbia’s ten most important high dams, will supply water to Niš and several municipalities in southeastern Serbia. Beyond water supply, it will offer flood protection, sediment control, hydropower generation, fish farming, and irrigation for agricultural lands.
Construction is expected to be completed within two years once the project begins. Glamočić emphasized that these investments not only address immediate needs but also support economic development, strengthen agriculture, improve crop yields, and help young people remain in their communities.
