The Government of Serbia, at the proposal of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, will again implement a decree this year to subsidize the purchase of electric vehicles, marking the sixth consecutive year of the program. This year, the subsidies will also apply to electric Fiat Pandas, whose production is expected to begin soon in Kragujevac, as confirmed by Sandra Dokić, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
Dokić told Tanjug that the regulation outlining the conditions and process for subsidized electric vehicle purchases will be adopted by the end of January. Applications for subsidies are expected to open in early February and remain open until October 31. The program is open to citizens, businesses, and entrepreneurs, with subsidies of 5,000 euros available for passenger vehicles with up to nine seats and cargo vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. Additionally, motorcycles, tricycles, and quadricycles will also be subsidized, with amounts ranging from 250 to 500 euros depending on the model.
One important aspect of this year’s program is that electric Fiat Pandas, which are expected to begin production in Kragujevac soon, will also qualify for the 5,000 euro subsidy per vehicle.
For this initiative, the government has allocated 170 million dinars in this year’s budget to subsidize electric vehicle purchases. If the demand exceeds the allocated funds, as it has in previous years, additional funds will be provided to cover all eligible requests that have the required documentation.
Dokić pointed out that since the program began in 2020, more than 2,800 vehicles have been subsidized, including hybrid vehicles until last year. However, hybrid vehicles are no longer eligible for subsidies due to the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s focus on electric vehicles, which have a greater impact on air quality preservation. The program now solely supports fully electric vehicles.
In 2023, 349 electric vehicles were subsidized under the program. Following the adoption of the new decree, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will publish a form with details on the necessary documentation for submitting subsidy applications.
