Works to expand the Banatski Dvor underground gas storage capacity from 450 to 750 million cubic meters are expected to be completed by the end of next year, according to Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy. The expansion aims to enhance energy security and system stability by allowing more surplus gas to be stored during summer and ensuring better coverage of winter consumption, along with increased daily gas production capacity.

State Secretary Sonja Vlahović and Assistant Minister Saša Koković recently inspected the project, which started on April 2 this year. Installation on the first two wells is complete and ready for gas injection, while work on the third of twelve planned wells has begun.

Koković emphasized that larger gas reserves will enable quicker crisis response and provide greater market security during winter. The project is financed by Srbijagas and Gazprom International Projects, the facility’s shareholders.
